The IT, Analytics, and Operations (ITAO) Department, at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, in collaboration with the Data, AI, and Computing Initiative (DAC), announces an open-rank position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.
The ideal candidate has a strong record of interesting and impactful scholarship or great potential for such scholarship. This entails significant publication success at premier outlets and/or a strong pipeline of innovative and rigorous research relevant to Data, AI, and Computing in business applications. Preference will be given to individuals whose research complements the interests of our existing faculty. Candidates pushing the envelope in exciting boundary-spanning areas at the intersection of business, analytical modeling, computational social science, machine learning, network science, human-centered artificial intelligence, or experimentation methods are encouraged to apply.
The ITAO Department is home to a host of approaches and backgrounds, making for a vibrant research environment, which results in frequent, compelling, and unique collaborative research projects among our faculty. The department also houses the Human-centered Analytics Lab (HAL), Generative AI, Management, and Accountability Lab (GAMA), and the Humanitarian Operations Lab (HOPE).
ITAO is well-aligned with the university's Data, AI, and Computing Initiative, which launched in September 2025. The initiative’s aim is to advance purposeful data, AI, and computing—excelling in foundational research while catalyzing interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world translation to address pressing societal challenges.
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom with an interest in teaching in areas related to analytics, broadly defined. In addition to our PhD program in Analytics, the ITAO Department offers an undergraduate major in Business Analytics, two AI minors, and a Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program. The Mendoza College of Business is home to a highly regarded Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program, for which we offer a major in Analytics & AI.
The ITAO Department is an integral part of the University of Notre Dame’s interdisciplinary efforts to make an impact on scholarship and society through analytical modeling, operations research, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and computationally intensive research. There are also interdisciplinary collaborative opportunities, such as the possibility of affiliate faculty status in other departments (e.g., CS or Statistics) or the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society. ITAO researchers enjoy generous allocations of resources from Notre Dame’s Center for Research Computing and the support of a staff of three full-time Mendoza College of Business data scientists and a director of behavioral research who oversees the Mendoza Behavioral Lab.
