What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking an individual whose responsibility is to perform technical work to support Facilities Management & Engineering organization. Responsible for maintaining critical building, systems and infrastructure drawings, databases and diagrams. Works in a peer relationship with planning, space, Architects and engineering personnel to support engineering, operations and maintenance projects. Applies multi-discipline engineering systems expertise as well as relevant technical knowledge as it pertains to design, drafting, information gathering and systems interpretation.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Utilize 3D modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD) to create, organize, and maintain multidisciplinary BIM models.
- Convert existing 2D CADD drawings to 3D BIM models, applying BIM standards, templates, and workflows.
- Develop and maintain digital construction content such as Revit families, templates, and detail components.
- Modify and improve existing building, systems, and infrastructure drawings; incorporate as-built info via redlines or LiDAR.
- Manage drawing requests from Architecture/Engineering firms or Operations Engineers; create and maintain project folders using drawing management software.
- Receive and organize drawings at project closeout; update models and drawings; identify and retrieve missing files.
- Conduct field walks to gather data, perform studies and calculations, and prepare original layouts and sketches.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and customers to interpret design concepts and define detailed drawing requirements.
- Perform quality assurance checks to ensure drawings comply with standards, specifications, and contracts.
- Execute work using Maximo service requests to track and complete tasks.
- Apply configuration management principles to maintain drawing management and centralized space management assignments.
- Provide daily support to Operations teams for projects, outages, arc-flash, and engineering assessments.
- Update information database systems and related IT applications.
The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range
$74,700 - $144,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- High school diploma plus three (3) years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience in the following:
- Revit,
- AutoCAD
- Drawing management.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- Two-year degree in like field plus five (5) years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience with some or all the following software platforms Autodesk Construction Cloud, ProjectWise, Autodesk Vault and Bluebeam software.
- Ability to support multidisciplinary model coordination and perform basic clash detection.
- Commitment to learning new software, tools, workflows, and responsibilities while supporting department and Lab-wide initiatives.
- Ability to independently prioritize and complete multiple and competing assignments.
- Skilled in teamwork and self-management; enables others working in the process to do their work effectively.
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs.
About Our Team
The Sandia CADD/BIM department delivers comprehensive management of Facilities Engineering building and systems records. Our team specializes in both 2D CADD and 3D BIM software technologies, ensuring accurate and efficient documentation. Additionally, we employ advanced Light Imaging Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology to rapidly capture and provide data sets of existing and as-built conditions. LiDAR is utilized across our Design, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance departments.
The team offers matrixed design services to various internal customers and supports the In-house Design department. We also collaborate with external Architectural Engineering (A/E) partners to ensure high-quality project deliverables. The department is recognized as a leader within the Department of Energy (DOE) community for its expertise in similar work and technology.
Posting Duration

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
